Technology Education is one of the fastest-growing teaching
areas, in both Oklahoma and across the nation. By the year 2001, more than 13,000
qualified teachers will be needed to keep up with the huge ongoing demand for this
exciting field. Teachers in technology education programs play a critical role in
helping Oklahoma's students in Grades 6-10 become technologically literate. In
addition, technology education teachers provide students not only the opportunity to
explore careers but also the opportunity to experience them. By becoming more
knowledgeable about a vast range of career opportunities, students are better prepared to
identify possible career choices. Very few jobs in this country have more impact on peoples' lives, dreams and ambitions than those in education. Teachers, through their daily work with students, motivate and inspire America's young people to set and achieve lofty goals. As you think back over your life, who has motivated you to get where you are today? If you are like many others, the response is often "a teacher." Other than parents, teachers probably have the most impact on whether or not young people succeed in their chosen careers. In the case of former CareerTech students, that statement is especially true.
In case after case, those students report that it was the technology education
teacher who spent extra time with them in classrooms, in labs, and in TSA activities.
The Technology Education teacher challenged and inspired them to succeed. For more information e-mail MaryJo Self, Oklahoma State University, Gary Bell, Southwestern Oklahoma State University or Mark Nelson, Northeastern State University |
