T&I Teacher Certification FAQ

A few questions we hear (or wish we would hear) frequently:

  • What do I need to RENEW my Standard certification?

  • Does my NOCTI (24 hours) count toward the 6 or 15 hours I need for renewal?

    • No, only actual taken courses count.

  • Will Advanced Standing credit (CLEP or tested-out hours) count toward the 6 or 15 hours I need for renewal?

    • No, only actual taken courses count.

  • Can I take courses at schools other than OSU or UCO?

    • Yes but please work closely with your advisor at UCO or OSU to see that they will transfer back for your degree.

  • Can I complete a degree I was working on before entering teaching?

    • No. By agreement with the SDE, all CareerTech teachers must be making satisfactory progress toward a degree in Career and Technology Education. The caveat to this is that you MAY continue working on your other degree, but unless the hours taken will fit into your CTE degree plan, they will not be counted toward renewal. Plan carefully and consult your advisors at your college and the T&I office.
