Regional Internetworking Contest Tools/Equipment List

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES:

Contestants will need to bring the following:
  • See correspondence (if applicable) from host instructor listing equipment or additional tools you need to bring in addition to the following.
  • Contestants should arrive dressed appropriately to represent their employer, and conduct themselves with the judges and fellow competitors as they would expect to behave on a typical service call.
  • The following items are required, ONE FOR EACH CONTESTANT YOU HAVE COMPETING:
  • 1-Computer, laptop preferred, with surge protector/power bar
    • Needs Hyperterminal or PC320 terminal emulation package installed
  • 1-Cisco Router
  • 1- EACH DCE and DTE serial cables
  • 1-Rollover cable and adaptor for your computer
  • Dumb hub with a minimum of 8 ports.
  • 25 feet of CAT 5 cable PER CONTESTANT
  • 4-RJ45's 8P8C crimp-on connectors PER CONTESTANT (no more, no less)
  • Cable terminating tool
  • Cable tester
  • Cat 5 pinout guide (cheat-sheet)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Standard field service tool kit
  • Reference manuals (hardware and software)
  • 4-Pre-formated 1.44MB diskettes
  • Volt-Ohm-Milliammeter (VOM or DMM)
  • Scientific calculator (exp. notation, sqr, sqr. root, log, etc.).
  • #2 lead pencils (3 or 4)
