In order to renew the initial issue of a T&I Teaching Certificate, License, or Provisional Certificate, according to the Policies and Procedures for Certification, approved by the State Board of Career and Technology Education:

... the holder must pass an occupational competency examination approved by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.

Effective July 1, 2007:  Candidates must pass both Written and Performance tests at or above the mean for national testing in order to renew their Provisional I teaching certificate.

Occupational Competency Exams approved by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education include:

   The National Occupational Competency Testing Institute's series of Skilled Worker exams

   Certificates/Licenses accepted in-lieu of the NOCTI examination include:

  • Air Conditioning/Heating (HVAC): OK State Mechanical Contractor licensing (for which the applicant has successfully completed the Construction Industries Board examination: grandfathered licenses are not acceptable) OR BOTH OF THE FOLLOWING: OK State Mechanical Journeyman licensing (for which the applicant has successfully completed the Construction Industries Board examination: grandfathered licenses are not acceptable) AND NATE Certification appropriate to the areas you are teaching;
  • Automotive Service Technology: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification:
    • Master ASE Certification in Automotive Service;
  • Aviation Maintenance:  Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic license;
  • CISCO (Internetworking): CCNA OR CCNP;
  • Collision Repair Technology: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Certified in Collision/Refinishing;
  • Computer Applications: Brainbench testing over the following topics (minimum, flexible based upon actual applications taught within the program.  Testing must be proctored by an authorized school Testing Liaison; Re-testing may not be done more frequently than every 30 days:)
    • Computer Fundamentals (Select one of the following: Win 9X, 2000, OR XP) (at least to the Mastery Level, 4.0 or higher);
    • MS Word Fundamentals (at least to the Mastery Level, 4.0 or higher);
    • MS Excel Fundamentals (at least to the Mastery Level, 4.0 or higher);
    • MS PowerPoint Fundamentals (at least to the Mastery Level, 4.0 or higher);
    • MS Internet Explorer Fundamentals (at least to the Mastery Level, 4.0 or higher);
    • MS Outlook Fundamentals (at least to the Mastery Level, 4.0 or higher);
    • MS Access Fundamentals (at least to the Mastery Level, 4.0 or higher);
  • Computer Repair/Networking: CompTIA A+ and one of the following:
          o  CompTIA Net+;
          o  Novel - CNA, CNE or CNI;
    • Cisco CCNA or CCNP;
  • Cosmetology: Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology Instructor License;
  • Criminal Justice (Law Enforcement): CLEET Certification (for Peace Officer only; Security Guard not applicable);
  • Medium/Heavy Duty Truck (Diesel Service Technology):  Master ASE Certification in Medium/Heavy Duty Truck;
  • Electrical Trades:  OK State Unlimited Electrical Contractor licensing (for which the applicant has successfully completed the Construction Industries Board examination: grandfathered licenses are not acceptable);
  • Electronics: FCC First Class Radiotelephone Operators License (will waive written exam only);
  • Firefighter:  Firefighter Certification I and II and CPR Instructor;
  • Industrial Technology: Fluid Power Society - Certified Fluid Power Hydraulic Mechanic OR 
        Manufacturing Engineering Certification Institute: Certified Manufacturing Technologist;
  • Plumbing:  Contractor licensing (for which the applicant has successfully completed the Construction Industries Board examination: grandfathered licenses are not acceptable);
  • Welding:  American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Educator (CWE): AWS QC5-91.

Fees for NOCTI exams are:

  • Written exam        $100.00
  • Practical exam      $125.00
  • Registrations submitted after established deadlines:  Please add $50 to cover our cost for overnight shipping.
