INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS MANAGEMENTSome instructions for Instructional Materials Break-downThe curriculum and supplemental materials listed in the tables on each Trade Curriculum page represent a basic framework to assist in establishing a program. The following has proven to be a very effective method of organizing these materials and allowing you to present them in an orderly and efficient manner. The materials are divided broadly into three categories: TEXT, REFERENCE, and SUPPLEMENTAL materials. The classification of each item is indicated in the right-hand column of the list. TEXT materials have been identified as core instruction for the program. The ORDER NUMBERS in the left hand column are for the TEACHER copy of each text. A corresponding STUDENT copy is available for each of these. REFERENCE materials are usually peripheral to the program and may be used to supplement instruction, or, depending on specifics of the program, may be used as TEXT materials. SUPPLEMENTAL materials are not instructional materials but resources, such as SkillsUSA handbooks, toolkits, duty/task lists, curriculum guides, charts and posters. Teacher materials are loose-leaf, three-hole punched materials which may be disassembled into manageable units of instruction. The total number of units in each item is indicated in the right column. We recommend the use of "pocket" folders with metal gussets, which will allow for one instructional unit to be placed in each folder. The pockets allow for storage of overhead transparencies, floppy disks, handout masters, or supplemental materials collected from other sources. These fit handily into file drawers, and by writing the book title, unit number, and subject on the edge of each folder, act as their own filing system. Stored with the open edge up, clippings, articles, photos, or other materials may be dropped into the appropriate unit folder where it will be ready for use when you are ready to present that lesson. (See diagram below.) Reference materials are usually placed in three-ring binders for easy reference and removal of materials needed for instruction as needed. We hope this system will work well for you as it has for our teachers. Please E-mail or call us if we can provide additional details or if you have suggestions.
