MASONRY
This program is an introduction to masonry, including the nature of masonry
technology, materials and supplies required, needed skills, and employment opportunities.
Specific instruction given in safe practices and skills in layout, the use of tools to
spread mortar, leveling, plumbing, use of various jointers for jointing brick and block in
wall construction, corners, piers, and pilasters.
Students learn advanced masonry skills, including estimating, fireplace and chimney
construction, blueprint reading, understanding building codes, ceramic tile, vinyl
flooring installation, concrete form work, and the application of skills and safe
practices in constructing walls, corner sills, arches, steps, walks, and similar outdoor
structures in a variety of bonds and materials.
Seventy-five percent of time is devoted to hands-on experience.
