Precision Machining Contest

 

Tool list and information:   Each contestant will be required to bring their own toolboxes with a Minimum of the tools listed below.  Each contestant will need to bring there own tools.  Check with host site on whether to bring stock. Check with host site if there are questions on any machines or tooling.  Sharing boxes or tools will not be allowed.  Safety release form, side shield for glasses and chip hooks are required.

Mill

 

The mill project will be made of aluminum.  The material will be rough cut to 4.00 x 4.00 X 1.00 with all dimensions to be finished by contestants.

 

**Tools required:

 

 - Face mill or fly cutter - 3" Max diameter

 - End mills; 1/4” & 1/2"

 - Center drill

 - Drill bits; #7, Ό",  5/16”, 27/64” & 1/2”

 - Taps; 1/4-20, 3/8-16, 5/16-18 & 1/2-13 

 - Set of Parallels

 - Edge finder

 - Tap handle

 

Lathe

 

The Lathe project will be made of 12L14 or 1018 cold rolled steel the material .  The material will be finished to length 7.000 X 2.00 diameter and center drilled on each end.

 

**Tools required:

 

 - Facing & turning tool

 - Threading tool

 - Grooving tool; .125” wide

 - Drill bit; 1/2"

 - Boring bar; 1/4", 3/8” or 1/2" dia

   (capable of 1” depth of bore)

 - Chip hook

 

Measurement & Inspection

 

 - Steel ruler; 6” or 12”

 - OD Mic’s, 0-1” (.0001 scale) & 1-2”

   (with standards)

 - 6” Caliper

 - 1-2” OD Blade Mic (can use 6” caliper)

 - Thread Mic’s; 1-2”, 6 & 12 pitch or thread wires

   (with standards)

 - Depth Mic with standards; 0-4”

 - Set of Telescoping gages

 - Protractor
