Alternative Fuels Technician
TR0080022
If you have an interest in cars and a good, solid background in computers, math and science, you might be a perfect for a career as an Alternative Fuels Vehicle (AFV) Technician.
As we try and decrease our nation's dependence on foreign oil and address concerns with increasing air pollution, manufacturers have already sold thousands of alternative fuel vehicles, and the demand for technicians to service this growing number of vehicles is increasing. That translates into attractive salaries and good job security for the AFV Technician.
Mechanical aptitude is important in this field, as well as computer skills to diagnose engine problems; and math/physics to help you analyze and solve system malfunctions related to friction, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics. Independent thinking and learning skills are also useful, because the technician must read and understand considerable amounts of technical information to keep up with emerging technology.
