Medical Transcription
This course will provide students with a strong foundation for placement in the Medical Office using machine transcribers. Emphasis is on developing transcription skills from voice media into usable medical communication. Correct formatting of medical documents, medical definitions, and correct spelling of medical terminology are also emphasized.

Letter Transcription
-Identify the correct placement of the physician, typist, and dictators initials
-Determine the correct heading format for the continuation page headers
-Identify the correct placement for typists initials, enclosures, and copy notations

-Identify accepted practices when typing multiple page letters

-Determine the correct format for listing vertebrae
-Identify the three major components of medical terminology

-Define non-privileged information
-Determine the reasons for keeping accurate, thorough patient medical records
-Determine properties of patient record

-Define HIPAA and Confidentiality Practices

-Determine what format to use for filing information in patient records
-Determine what information is to be released to patients without doctor's review

Medical Report Transcription
-List the synonyms for diagnosis
-Identify the different types of medical reports
-Determine the different formats for each report
-Identify the Chart Notes and Progress Notes formats
-Define POMR and which section of the report it would be located in
-Identify how to list the pre-operative and post-operative diagnoses if they are exactly the same
-Define physical examination and its acronym
-Define interval history
