Network and Routing Fundamentals

Students will prepare for positions related to the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of network hardware peripherals and protocols. Students will learn the basics of networking by exploring the OSI model, network topologies, cabling techniques, network communications protocols, and hardware.

Business and Computer Technology OR Fundamentals of Technology
Perform tasks related to networking mathematics, terminology, and models.

Explain networking fundamentals.

Identify the differences in networking media types.

Perform cable testing.

Configure/cable LANs and WANs.

Apply Ethernet fundamentals and technologies.

Demonstrate the concepts of Ethernet switching.

Demonstrate the proper use of TCP/IP Protocol Suite and IP Addressing.

Identify networking functions performed within the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model.

Explain/apply routing fundamentals and subnets.

Demonstrate the appropriate use of TCP/IP Transport and Application Layer.

Use appropriate routing protocols.

Perform intermediate TCP functions.

Utilize access control lists (ACLs).

Demonstrate proper care, maintenance, and use of networking software, tools, and equipment.
