Language Development and Social Skills is a course designed to assist students in gaining a basic understanding of language and social skills. The course combines classroom instruction with lab experience and observation to develop competence in working with young children. The course will allow students the opportunity to experiences first hand what it is like to work with children in group settings. The course also gives the students a basis for the understanding of language and social skills of the young child.

-Demonstrate their understanding of language and social skills from birth to age twelve.
-Correctly identify appropriate language activities for specific age groups.
-Demonstrate good storytelling guidelines.
-Exhibit types of guiding play and puppetry.
-Illustrate appropriate library/quiet centers.
-Model appropriate writing centers for 4 & 5 year olds.
-Demonstrate their ability to work with young children by
completing hands-on-projects assigned by the teacher in lab settings.
