This in-depth study is designed to provide basic knowledge of child development as well as develop skills necessary to care for children and promote children's development, child health, first aid, and nutrition; plus information and activities in guiding children's behavior and meeting the needs of special age groups. Careers in early childhood care and education are explored.

-Describe stages of prenatal development

-List examples; and state guidelines for prevention of accidents and state guidelines for responding to common childhood accidents and emergencies

-Describe nutritional requirements for children

-Identify criteria for selecting clothing for children

-List resources for meeting the needs of special needs children

-Define types of child abuse and list risk factors that increase it

-Explore child care services and community resources

-Explore careers relating to children
