Preparing for Work in the Food Service Industry

Students will be introduced to the importance of good hygiene and proper attire as a food service worker. Students will list good personal habits for a food service worker; demonstrate sanitary methods for washing hands; washing and drying and storing dishes and equipment; understand types of food contamination; demonstrate tasting of food in a sanitary manner; and demonstrate procedures for sanitizing kitchen counters, fixtures, and equipment. Students will also be required to list factors leading to the spread of food-borne illnesses and food contamination. Demonstrate the ability to handle and store meats, fruits, vegetables, baked goods, dairy products, cereal and grain products, hot foods and cold foods. Students will demonstrate the correct procedure for using gloves while at work.
