Basic Care & Prevention of Athletic Injuries

This course will teach the students to recognize, evaluate and provide care to athletic injuries. Students will demonstrate skill in taping and wrapping techniques and construction and fitting of equipment to comply with safety regulations. Upon completion of this course, students will have a basic understanding of pharmacology and nutrition.

The student will be able to recognize, evaluate and provide care of athletic injuries:
1. Demonstrate the ability to obtain injury information and refer as necessary.
2. Identify and describe signs of closed injuries to soft tissue.
3. Identify and describe signs of open injuries to soft tissue.
4. Define and identify different types of fractures.
5. Identify signs and symptoms of head, neck, and spinal injuries.
6. The students will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of nutrition.
7. The students will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of pharmacology.
8. The students will demonstrate taping and wrapping techniques:
-Shoulder
- Elbow, wrist and hand
- Knee
- Lower leg, ankle and foot
9. The students will be able to demonstrate skill in the construction and fitting of equipment to comply with safety regulations.
