Basic Human Needs
The student should be able to define normal in respect to vital signs, posture, range of motion and muscle function. They will be able to demonstrate proper body mechanics, transfer techniques and perform accurate testing of muscle strength and joint motion. The student will be instructed in activities of daily living and basic gait training skills. Practical application of these skills will be practiced in the laboratory.

At the completion of this course, the student should be able to:

-Analyze the importance of and demonstrate competence in measuring and assessing vital signs.
-Identify and apply basic kinesiological and biomechanical concepts used in the practice of physical therapy and design patient care activities that utilize these concepts.
-Demonstrate and analyze proper body mechanics in all environments.
-Evaluate,perform and teach patient transfers.
-Evaluate training programs for deficiencies in activities of daily living.
-Identify and discuss the major components of posture and equilibrium.
-Identify and discuss the major components of the skeletal system.
-Identify and discuss the major components of the articular system.
-Demonstrate competence in goniometry.
-Identify and analyze the major components of the muscular system.
-Demonstrate skill in manual muscle testing.
