Clinical Procedures II
The student will demonstrate an understanding of such skills as maintaining the examination area, performing clinical lab tests, venipuncture, microhematacrit and twelve lead electrocardiograph (ECG). An emphasis is placed on the patient's physical examination and treatment procedures that are performed in a medical office setting.

-Prepare the patient and assist during a minor surgical procedure.

-Assist with and/or perform system examinations and appropriate clinical procedures for the female or male reproductive system.

-Prepare a patient for electrocardiography, operate an electrocardiograph (ECG), eliminate artifacts, mount and label the ECG.

-Assist with and/or perform body system examinations and appropriate clinical procedures for the circulatory system.

-Prepare patient, perform Venipuncture, label, provide proper storage and deliver a blood specimen.

-Demonstrate hematology tests following safety and quality control guidelines to protect yourself and others, and ensure the accuracy of the tests.

-Follow all safety guidelines when handling specimens and follow test manufacturer or laboratory procedures to ensure obtaining a high quality specimen for testing.

-Collect and process specimens according to the guidelines set forth by the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments).

-Demonstrate how to set up and assist with a physical examination.
