During this course, the student will receive a program introduction, information about Evaluation Methodology and Employability Grade, and career readiness. HOSA will be introduced in the beginning of this course. Other topics include:

- Essential/General Dental Lab Materials and Equipment
- Safety
- Infection Control
- Dental Laboratory Associations
- Dental Laboratory Ethics and Jurisprudence
- Preventive Dentistry

1.Lesson 1 - Program Introduction
-Review basic program information presented in the Program Handbook.
-Comprehend program expectations.
-When given a list identify program rules and procedures.
-Restate in your own words, the instructor's real-world expectation and philosophy.
-Comprehend how to adhere to the district attendance policies.

Lesson 2 - Evaluation Methodology and Employability Grade
-Identify when given examples the different components of the grading system.
-Restate in your own words, the instructor's real-world expectation and philosophy.
-Describe and demonstrate the Employability Grade criteria.
-Define and model the responsibilities of a lab manager.

Lesson 3 - Career Readiness
-Identify the two Career Majors offered in the Dental Laboratory Technician Program.
-Summarize the three pathways for certification by National Board for Certification of Dental Laboratory.
-Design essential documents to support career readiness in the Dental Laboratory Field.
-Practice completing applications for actual positions found in the Dental Laboratory Field
-Prepare for the various stages of the employment selection process.
-Outline the major functions of a Lab Manager in the industry and compare with the Program Lab Managers responsibilities.

Lesson 4 - Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
-When given a list identify HOSA's goals.
-State what the official HOSA dress code.
-List five possible officers and two of their responsibilities.
-Comprehend the following components of HOSA; committees, competitive events, and various chapter activities.

Lesson 5 -
Essential/General Dental Lab Materials and Equipment
-Identify the various gypsum products, describe their physical and chemical reactions, and demonstrate their proper usage.
-Identify the various impression materials, describe their physical application and demonstrate their proper usage.
-Identify the various dental waxes, describe their physical application, and demonstrate their proper usage.
-Describe the purpose for separating materials and demonstrate their proper usage.
-Describe the various dental burs and abrasives, and demonstrate their proper usage.
-Identify the various equipment, describe the purpose and demonstrate their proper usage.

Lesson 6 - Develop a portfolio
-Discuss the components of a portfolio.
-Develop the components of a professional portfolio.

Lesson 7 - Safety
-List proper equipment safety practices all students will be required to follow.
-When given a list of the 13 Personal Safety Hazards summarize each.
-Exhibit use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that will be required in the Dental Lab Program.
-Define the emergency equipment found in the Dental Lab Program and state how and when they are to be used.

Lesson 8 - Infection Control
-Describe and demonstrate Universal Precaution procedures used in a dental laboratory.
-Summarize infection control practices necessary in a dental laboratory.
-Describe the importance of Bloodborne Pathogens within the dental laboratory field.
-In your own words summarize the role of OSHA in the dental laboratory.
-Describe the regulations regarding transferring products to a second container.
-Explain the use of MSDS.
-List personal protective equipment used with hazardous materials.
-Identify the Category dental laboratory technicians fall under in the occupational exposure, and explain why.

Lesson 9 - Dental Laboratory Associations
-Identify where the National Association of Dental Laboratories is located.
-When given a list be able to define the acronyms that are associated with Dental Lab Associations.
-Summarize the three pathways for certification by National Board for Certification of Dental Laboratory.
- Identify the application process to become certified.

Lesson 10 - Dental Laboratory Ethics and Jurisprudence
-Explain the difference between ethics and jurisprudence.
-Discuss the difference between legal and moral.
-Identify the purpose of the Board.
-Give a scenario analyze the Oklahoma laws governing Dental Labs and Dental Technicians that applies.

Lesson 11 - Preventive Dentistry
-Identify the different ways a person my receive fluoride.
-Explain the most effective form of fluoride.
-Demonstrate the proper way to brush and floss your teeth.
-Summarize the progression of periodontal disease
