Effective Communication for the Occupational Therapy Aide
The student will learn communication skills specific to the occupational therapy environment.

-Discuss the role communication plays in the occupational therapy setting.

-Discuss the proper use of the telephone in a therapeutic office.

-Demonstrate computer and keyboarding skills.

-Report functional abilities, level of assistance needed, patient treatment compliance of patient therapy treatment information to occupational therapy personnel and other health care professionals.

-Greet patients and visitors.

-Provide patients and families with information on benefits and possible side effects of treatment as directed by the occupational therapist.

-Demonstrate a variety of communication techniques appropriate for patient impairment such as sign language for hearing impaired, alternative communication methods for visually, mentally, and cognitively impaired and communicating board.

-Assist medicated patient.

-Use medical terminology related to occupational therapy appropriately.

-Complete written documents legibly.
