Health Unit Clerk
Students in this course will learn basic computer skills, basic transcription, customer service, verbal and nonverbal communication skills, proper telephone etiquette, and organizational skills that will prepare them for the diverse roll of the health unit clerk.

• Coordinate physician orders for the patient between the physician, nursing staff and other hospital departments
• Perform daily chart analysis for physician signatures on orders
• Receive and coordinate telephone calls properly, according to hospital procedure, and in compliance with confidentiality statues and procedures
• Release information according to the law and facility policy
• Communicate with physicians, hospital staff, patients and patient families using appropriate verbal and nonverbal skills
• Demonstrate use of computer systems
• Complete paperwork and forms with accuracy including special documents like death and birth certificates
• Check and track vital signs
• Demonstrate ability to keep track of the location of multiple people including staff and patients
