Introduction to Medical Lab Operations

Maintaining smooth operation of a medical laboratory requires an overall knowledge of the laboratory tests and the equipment and materials necessary for completing the studies. Roles and responsibilities of staff will be identified. Safety guidelines will be studied. Principles of aseptic technique and infection control will be taught, as will standard precautions, including handwashing and disposal of biohazardous materials. Students will learn of inventory control. Students will also study HIPPA regulations and quality assurance practices.
