Orthotics & Prosthetics Equipment and Materials
The student will be able to identify equipment, tools and materials used to manufacture various orthotic and prosthetic devices. Safety policies and procedures will be presented, and the student will demonstrate basic skills and techniques in the operation of each machine. Applied math skills necessary for equipment and materials utilization will be taught.

Upon completion of this course, the student shall be able to:

-Explain the scope of the fields of orthotics and prosthetics(O & P).

-Understand the roles of the Registered Technician, the Registered Associate and the Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist.

-Understand the American Board for Certification's role in the certification process and the pathways of advancement in the field.

-Understand the health and safety procedures common to the laboratory health sciences.

-Understand the concept of individualized instruction.

-Become familiar with the structure and function of LAPs.

-Explain the different areas of the O/P lab and proper uses of each.

-Demonstrate familiarity with the components of orthoses and prosthesis.

-Understand terminology common to the O & P field.

-Understand the proper use of the hand and power tools available in the lab and their safe use.

-Explain the materials utilized in O & P and how to use them safely.

-Demonstrate the safe and proper use of the tools and materials presented above.

-Gain mastery of basic O & P fabrication skills.
