Respiratory Therapy Procedures I & Lab

This course is designed to cover the theory and practice of basic respiratory care procedures. Included in this course are laboratory demonstrations and practice to prepare the student to be minimally proficient in basic respiratory care skills. Each student will be expected to satisfactorily be evaluated in a laboratory situation on the instructed skills as scheduled throughout the course.

-Demonstrate
the principles of operation and ability to set up equipment used to
provide various respiratory therapies including medical gases, aerosol,
humidity, lung expansion, and airway clearance.
-Explain
the goals, indications, contraindications and hazards of respiratory
therapies including medical gases, humidity, aerosol, lung expansion, and
airway clearance.
-Perform
physical assessment using correct terminology and procedures.
-Identify
normal and abnormal findings on chest radiographs.
-Explain
the principles and goals of therapist driven protocols and the knowledge
base required for successful use of protocols.
