This course is designed to assist the student to recognize and identify complications of surgery and respond with appropriate action.

1.Analyze the identification and management of the following types of surgical complications:

- Wounds
- Thermal regulation
- Respiratory
- Gastrointestinal
- Hepatobiliary

2. Analyze the cause, identification, management and prevention of the following surgical emergencies:

- Evisceration
- Malignant hyperthermia
- Abdominal compartment syndrome
- Severe pseudomembranous colitis
- Hemorrhage
- Perforation of viscus or cavity
- Cardiac events
- Sudden hypoxia
- Sudden shock
- Hemolytic reaction
- Anaphylactic reaction
