Threats to Basic Needs
The student will identify underlying circumstances and phases of disease and dysfunction and perform techniques to prevent secondary disabilities using special equipment as needed. The student will be able to demonstrate proper body mechanics and transfer techniques. Practical application of these techniques will be practiced in the laboratory.

At the end of this course the student will be able to:

1. Explain and analyze neurophysiological principles utilized in therapeutic exercise techniques.
2. Discuss benign and malignant tumors, their treatments and identify common tumors by body part affected.
3. Discuss and analyze pre and postpartum conditions and develop appropriate physical therapy interventions.
4. Discuss reproduction and pregnancy.
5. Describe the function of the digestive tract and identify the etiology, clinical picture and current medical and physical therapy treatment of various conditions
involving the digestive tract.
6. Identify the anatomy and functions of liver, gall bladder and pancreas and describe the etiology, clinical picture and medical and physical therapy treatments of conditions
involving these organs.
7. Identify and explain the structure and function of the genitourinary system and discuss etiology, symptoms and treatment of urinary, bladder and genital disorders.
8. Discuss nutrition and it's effects in relation to injuries and healing.
9. Discuss and analyze disease processes in terms of definition, prognosis, signs and symptoms, clinical course, Rx, PT intervention, medical and physical therapy treatments and
factors which may influence the body's ability to deal with these diseases.
