Aircraft Sheet Metal and Non-Metallic Structures
Students will apply drilling procedures and rivet airframe materials. Rivet layout, layout and bending of sheet stock, and sheet metal loads will be discussed. Students will fabricate, inspect, and repair aircraft sheet metal structures. Composite materials, including plastics will be studied. Inspection, repairs and use of tools on composite materials are performed by means of hands-on projects.

-Select, install, and remove special fasteners for metallic, bonded, and composite structures

-Inspect bonded structures

-Inspect, test and repair fiberglass, plastics, honeycomb, composite, and laminated primary and secondary structures

-Inspect, check, service, and repair windows, doors, and interior furnishings

-Inspect and repair sheet metal structures

-Install conventional rivets

-Form, layout, and bend sheet metal

Written and practical evaluations will be performed at the Part 147 AMTS. Upon successful completion of the AMTS requirements, students will have the opportunity to test with the FAA for licensure certification.

This course aligns with FAA Part 147 certified Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS) curriculum requirements. Teaching of this course by any entity other than a FAA 147 certified AMTS does not constitute FAA certification. Furthermore, each AMTS must have its curriculum approved by the FAA in its entirety, identifying the hours of instruction, order of instruction, subjects prescribed by Part 147, practical application projects, scheduling of tests, grading criteria, and makeup provisions.
