Jewelry Technology Orientation, Basics, and Safety

This course is an introduction to jewelry technology. Topics covered include: school policy, class rules, certification, safety. Students will identify various hand and power tools commonly used in the industry. MSDS location and EPA standards with regard to the industry will also be addressed. This course contains 5 hours of theory and 10 hours of lab.

A. Complete administrative requirement for enrollment.

B. Practice safety on the job.

C. Practice and measure a professional image.

D. Identify hand tools and their uses in the first semester tool kit

E. Identify power tools used in the manufacturing and repair of most jewelry products.

F. Identify finishing tools used in the manufacturing and repair of most jewelry products.

G. Understand the use of a laser welder.

H. Prepare the jeweler's bench.
