Biological Laboratory Technologist II
Laboratory Technician II is the journey level classification in the laboratory technician series, therefore, these technicians are expected to work independently and without close supervision. Level II technicians are expected to know their work functions, act independently, and advise supervisors of needed work and approximate time and materials needed to complete the work in a safe manner. Level II technicians are expected to have proven skills in the operation of all assigned equipment, and considerable knowledge of laboratory techniques required. These technicians are responsible for performing a wide variety of research laboratory tasks and experiments, making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results. They maintain laboratory equipment and inventory levels for laboratory supplies. Level II technicians should be able to recognize quality control shifts and trends and take appropriate action where necessary. They may also write reports, summaries, and protocols regarding experiments. A laboratory technician at this level is also expected to perform troubleshooting and calibration of instruments.
