Certified Medication Aide - Advanced
Students must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED and already be a certified in long term care nursing aide through the Oklahoma Department of Health and six months of experience to qualify for certified medication aide certification. Students in this career major will learn how to properly administer medication to patients orally, topically, vaginally, rectally, transdermally, and by ear, nose, eye. This advanced training program will present information to students on the care of diabetes and administration of diabetic medications and how to monitor blood glucose. Other topics that will be presented include administration of medications and nutrition via nasogastric and gastrostomy tubes, and for administration of oral metered dose inhalers and nebulizers. They will also learn about ethics in this profession, recognition of improper medication, and how to properly document the medication given.
