January 2014 Email

Kelly's January 2014 Email Archive
Greetings, Student Services Contacts!

The new year is off to a blazing start!  We have moved offices at the agency.  The Career and Academic Connections Division is now the first office on your left when you come up the stairway from the main entrance (southwest corner of the second floor).  All phone numbers will still be the same.  Hopefully, you have changed all your agency emails to the firstname.lastname@careertech.ok.gov format now.

Congratulations to Jan Bennett Bell!
Jan Bennett Bell, Career Advisor, Tulsa Technology Center is the first ever, new Vice-President Elect for the national ACTE Guidance and Career Development Division!  We are so proud of Jan, her election win and her willingness to step up to the national leadership level.  This position is a new position that was approved by the national Guidance Policy Committee in late spring of 2013. The Vice-President Elect will serve a full year with the Vice-President of Guidance and Career Development.  This will help Jan be fully involved in the leadership decisions before she takes the position of national Vice-President of ACTE's Guidance and Career Development (G&CD) Division in Jan. 2015.  Way to go, Jan!

New Financial Aid Toolkit to Improve College Access and Affordability
The U.S. Department of Education recently announced the launch of an online "one-stop shop" financial aid tool kit for guidance counselors and other advisers who help students select post-secondary institutions and finance their higher educations. The Financial Aid Toolkit consolidates financial aid resources and content into a searchable online database, making it easy for individuals to quickly access the information they need to support their students. The searchable online database provides access to resources covering the entire financial aid life cycle from applying for financial assistance to repaying student loans. It includes documents such as materials for financial aid nights at institutions publications, presentations, brochures, videos, and sample tweets and Facebook posts. The tool kit also offers professional development information, such as training opportunities and resources for self-instruction. More information about the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve college access and affordability can be found at http://www.ed.gov/college-completion Source: US Dept of Education: OVAE Connection
