Greetings, Student Services Contacts-hope you had a great spring break!  As par for the course, the year is flying by so check this email for upcoming spring workshops and other information.


OK Career Guide

Oklahoma’s NEW online career system will be here August 2015: OK Career Guide will be the new and improved statewide career development system supported by Oklahoma CareerTech, replacing OKCIS.  (In order to have no disruption of services, OKCIS will continue until the end of June, 2015.) 

OK Career Guide is currently being built specifically for Oklahoma and will have many of the same features in a new and improved format. The OK Career Guide system will serve a wider audience and provide more data to administrators, among other upgrades.  This system will be provided at no cost to Oklahomans and trainings will begin in August.  For more information, contact Roberta Douglas, 405.743.5425 or


4th Annual OkACTE Guidance Spring Workshop

Friday, April 10 at Metro Tech, Springlake Campus, Economic Development Building, Room 123

Topics will include working with multi-generations, communication and stress management/self-care.

This workshop is developed and implemented by the OkACTE Guidance officers.  It is designed as a “value added” workshop for OkACTE Guidance members.  Therefore, this is a free workshop for all OkACTE Guidance Primary and Secondary members.  If you are NOT a primary or secondary member of OkACTE Guidance, there is a $25 dollar registration fee. 


Casy Cundiff Scholarship

This scholarship is available to assist a student in accessing or completing a career and technology education career major or entering into the occupation for which he/she has trained.

Please nominate a worthy student as this is a great scholarship and great opportunity for a deserving student.

ODCTE Digital Open House

The agency will host a digital projects come and go open house and you are invited!  It will be Tuesday, March 31 from 9:00 – 12:00.  See invitation for all the details.  Among the projects that will be highlighted are:

Continuous School Improvement Proposals

The deadline for submitting presentation proposals for the 2nd Annual Continuous School Improvement Workshop is April 1.

The workshop will focus on the importance of continuous school improvement and the culture shift necessary to support continuous school improvement. Dr. Bill Daggett, founder and chairman of the International Center for Leadership in Education, will be the keynote speaker, and participants will also have the opportunity to exchange CSI best practices and develop and strengthen networks for continuous school improvement.

The workshop will feature three one-hour breakout sessions, for which we are seeking presentations. Please take a moment and follow the link below to submit your request to present at the workshop. We know there are great things happening in the field, and people want to hear from their peers, so please consider sharing your best practices at the CSI Workshop.

This professional development opportunity is FREE

A one day conference has been scheduled for technology center staff involved in teaching employability skills and/or assisting with placement of students in on-the-job learning opportunities and /or following completion of their career training at Oklahoma Tech Centers.

TOPICS discussed will include:

  • Policies for OJT, Internships, work based learning (Laws? Who is responsible for what?)
  • Resumes of Today – how they are different from the past, what employers want to see
  • Soft Skills/Employability Skills curriculum and activities to use with your students
  • Millennials - what they want & what employers are doing to meet their desires

We will have a 30 minute Q & A time at the end of the afternoon for attendees to share best practices and ask questions.

*Career Guidance Network of Oklahoma Conference

The CGNO spring conference will be held on Friday, April 24th on the campus of Oklahoma City Community College in room CU2.  Please park in Lot E and use the College Union Entrance.

The presenter will be Lori Stevens, certified trainer for Strengths Educator.  Lori is the Associate Director for the Graduation Office at the University of Oklahoma.  Lori's presentation will be “Strengths Approaches to Higher Education Leadership and Student Success.”   The basic parts of the presentation will include: Background of Strengths, the experience (going over assessment results), and  how to use it in our work with students/clients.  Download the program agenda.

There is a $9 fee to take the Strengths assessment and CGNO is covering the cost for each attendee.  An assessment code will be sent to each attendee after they register.  The assessment takes about 30 minutes to complete and attendees should complete it prior to the conference and bring the results to the conference.

  In order for CGNO to order Strength codes from Gallup, receive the codes from Gallup, and then forward a code to you to enable you to take the Strengths assessment prior to the conference, a deadline of April 1st is being set for you to register

4.75 CEU credits will be offered. 

There is no cost for CGNO members ... lunch included.

The cost is $50 for nonmembers ... lunch included.
