Workshop: Understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury
Friday, December 13
Great Plains Technology Center, Lawton
8:30 Registration; 9:00 – 12:30 Workshop
The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education and Great Plains Technology Center are sponsoring “Understanding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury” for those in education and education training who work with veterans with PTSD or TBI.
“We are seeing a significant upswing nationwide – and in Oklahoma – of military-related individuals returning to school, and a portion of those individuals have experiences that have led to injuries resulting in PTSD/TBI,” said Levi Valdois, CareerTech military liaison and coordinator of military initiatives. “Great Plains and CareerTech, through this workshop, are facilitating the necessary education and awareness related to PTSD/TBI, as well as promoting our abilities to provide educational services to this specific and very important population.”  Admission to the workshop is free, but seating is limited. To register, contact Debbie Reed at 580-250-5551 or dreed@greatplains.edu.

Monday Memo
Also attached is the Monday Memo from Dr. Robert Sommers.  It has information on the ongoing reorganization of the agency.  Dr. Sommers sends these out weekly and it has great information about the career tech system.  If this is something that you are NOT already receiving at your tech center, please email me back and I can make sure I forward that to you each week.

Reminder: Career Poster and Poetry Contest
November is National Career Development Month.  In honor of that month, the OkACTE Guidance Division and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education are sponsoring the 2013 annual state Career Poster and Poetry Contest. This year's theme is "Charting the Course." Kindergarten through adult students can enter the contest so we encourage you to get information to your partner schools as well.  (Also think about sharing this information with your graphic arts instructors and teachers in your partner schools such as English and Art.)  School winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place) are sent to the state for judging.  Winning school entries are sent to ODCTE, Attention-Kelly Arrington and are due on December 5, 2013. State winners are sent on to the national competition sponsored by the National Career Development Association.  For more information and entry forms go to: http://www.okacteguidance.org/
