Counselor Conference returns!  Mark March 5, 2012 on your calendar with conference to be held in Oklahoma City at the Magneson Hotel (formerly the Clarion).  More details to follow later.

Reminder: Mental Health First Aid Workshop to be held at ODCTE on Dec. 7-8, 2011.  Registration and other information was on last month's email.  If you need that information again, just email me for it.

CIMC has created a free student journal file that is now available at their website:
This file is a PDF that students can download and enter text.  It is something your teachers might find useful if they want their students to have more writing practice.

New Career Product:
Career Focus is a new career exploration and preparation guide. This 32-page, full-color magazine combines essential guidance with web activities and "skill builder" opportunities to help prepare users for college and the workplace. Topics include career clusters and pathways; plans of study; personal selling points; online tools; college planning checklists; interview strategies; and keys to career success. Career Focus also provides workplace re-entry strategies for those who have been absent from the workplace for a number of reasons. It is a concise guide to planned success for high school students and adults. Career Focus is item CS9015 and is $12 for a package of 10 copies for Oklahoma customers. March2Success was developed by the United States Army as a free, no-obligation tool to help anyone improve their test scores in the areas of English, Math and Science. March2Success provides materials needed to help improve scores on standardized tests such as state exit exams, SAT, ACT and ASVAB and also provides information on college admissions and financing. College Access Counselor Retreats for 2011--2012

What: The Counselor Retreat is a relaxing time for counselors to gather and share issues and ideas, to discuss new and relevant information about EPAS, College Readiness, Career Guidance, working with teachers and administrators, and helping students.
Share your ideas about how to improve school counseling in Oklahoma for your kids and schools statewide.  Be ready to make friends and participate in a growing Professional Learning Community of Oklahoma School Counselors!  All dates are Sunday and Monday except in June, they are Tuesday and Wednesday. Encyclo-Media Information
In the fall of 2011, the State Department of Education (SDE) passed the sponsorship of the Encyclo-Media Conference to the Oklahoma Technology Association (OTA).

Beginning in February of 2012 the annual OTA Conference and Encyclo-Media will be held at the same time.  The name will be: OTA Learning Technology Conference Encyclo-Media.

The first conference will be held on February 7-8, 2012, in the Cox Business Services Convention Center.  
Beginning in the Fall of 2012 the annual OTA Learning Technology Conference Encyclo-Media will be held in the fall.  The dates for the fall of 2012 are October 9-10.

The OTA webpage, www.oktech.org will provide you with the most up to date information about the conference.   There will be a registration fee for this upcoming conference.

ACT Southwest Region Conference
The 16th Annual ACT Southwest Region Conference on College Readiness and Success will be held April 18-20, 2012. This conference will be held at Marriott River Center  www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/satrc-san-antonio-marriott-rivercenter/ located at 101 Bowie Street directly on the famous San Antonio Riverwalk.  Registration is $165.00 per person. The ACT Southwest Conference provides post secondary administrators, from both student and academic affairs, with the opportunity to learn more about best practices associated with testing/assessment , student recruitment, course placement, remediation and retention related strategies. An enrollment management/admissions related track is included that focuses on strategic enrollment management.  Much of the conference will focus on how ACT's programs and services, specifically the COMPASS internet delivered placement and diagnostic system, can strategically be used to enhance student success.  
Please note that there is a limited number of hotel rooms available to conference attendees at $149.00 per night and they fill quickly usually before the hotel reservation deadline of March 27th.  You can contact the hotel at 1-800-266-9432 to rsvp and mention the ACT GROUP rate.
