Counselor Conference

When: March 10, Registration 8:30 – 9:00.

•             Morning Keynote: 9:00 – 10:00 
              Speaker: Damario Solomon Simmons
•             Lunch will be on your own 
•             Concurrent Sessions will conclude by 2:45
•             Will be asking for approval of  4 CEUs for Licensed Professional Counselors 

This venue is near several hotels and restaurants and has plenty of free parking. The conference will feature sessions for elementary, middle school/junior high, high school and technology center counselors. IT Essentials (8252) and Security Fundamentals (8246) courses satisfy the requirements for the ACE College Prep/Work Ready curriculum and for Oklahoma’s Promise.  The following information is from OKPromise:

“The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education recently updated the “Courses to Take-Course Guidelines for College Admission ACE and Oklahoma’s Promise” section of the website. As a reminder, the courses listed on this website satisfy requirements for Oklahoma’s Promise as well as college admission. It is important to note that two career technology center courses were added in the computer science/computer technology area:  IT Essentials and Security Fundamentals.”

For your information: in addition, four (4) courses will be taken OFF the approved list:

-8128 Advanced Routing and Remote Access Networks
-8129 Multi-Layer Switching and Internetwork Support
-8138 Computer Repair and Troubleshooting III
-8158 E-Commerce Site Production

And, three (3) courses will have name changes but keep the same OCAS code (Due to technological advances):

-8125 Network and Routing Fundamentals will now be Routing and Switching I
-8126 Routing, Switching and WAN Technologies will now be Routing and Switching II
-8182 Windows XP Command Line will now be Operating System/Command Line

Casy Cundiff Scholarship

This scholarship is available to assist a student in accessing or completing a career and technology education career major or entering into the occupation for which he/she has trained.  Please nominate a worthy student as this is a great scholarship and great opportunity for a deserving student.  Click on this link:   and click on the application.  Deadline is April 15.

Career Readiness Levels in Career Clusters

The level of performance needed on WorkKeys assessments for each career cluster is described in ACT’s Career Readiness in the United States 2015.  Click to bring up the booklet – the charts on the career clusters start on page 12.  You get levels of performance needed on WorkKeys assessments for selected occupations in different educational levels within the clusters and then an overall level of performance needed for the cluster.  


Oklahoma Association of College Testing Personnel (OACTP) Spring Conference

June Mental Health First Aid Trainings

There will be 3 Mental Health First Aid for Youth/Adult in June.  You choose ONE to attend.  More details to follow later.  The dates will be:

-June 1: Mental Health First Aid for Youth/Adult – Canadian Valley Tech Center, Yukon Campus
-June 2: Mental Health First Aid for Youth/Adult – ODCTE, Stillwater
-June 3: Mental Health First Aid for Youth/Adult – ODCTE, Stillwater

Again, participants pick one to attend.  Time Frame: 8:30 – 4:30 for the workshop with working lunch.  Topics covered will include:

•             Understanding Depression and Anxiety Disorders
•             Crisis First Aid for Suicidal Behavior & Depressive Symptom
•             What is Non- Suicidal Self-Injury?
•             Crisis First Aid for Panic Attacks/Traumatic Events
•             Understanding Disorders in Which Psychosis May Occur
•             Crisis First Aid for Acute Psychosis
•             Understanding Substance Use Disorders/Crisis First Aid for Overdose and Withdrawal

LPC points will be offered.
