June - Mental Health First Aid for Youth/Adult Workshops (Agenda Attached)

(Please share with your contacts that you think would be interested in attending.)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) aims to provide knowledge and skills to potentially prevent a mental health emergency through early intervention and also how to navigate through such an emergency if one occurs.  Just as CPR training helps a person with no clinical training assist an individual following a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid training helps a person assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis such as contemplating suicide. In both situations, the goal is to help support an individual until appropriate professional help arrives. Mental Health First Aiders learn a single 5-step strategy that includes assessing risk, respectfully listening to and supporting the individual in crisis, and identifying appropriate professional help and other supports. Participants are also introduced to risk factors and warning signs for mental health or substance use problems, engage in experiential activities that build understanding of the impact of illness on individuals and families, and learn about evidence-supported treatment and self-help strategies.

There will be three Mental Health First Aid Workshops for Youth/Adult in June.  Participants choose ONE workshop to attend.  The dates and locations are:
-June 1: Mental Health First Aid for Youth/Adult – Canadian Valley Tech Center, Yukon Campus

-June 2: Mental Health First Aid for Youth/Adult – ODCTE, Stillwater

-June 3: Mental Health First Aid for Youth/Adult – ODCTE, Stillwater

Refreshments, continental breakfast, lunch, materials, and workbook provided. Information on hotels will be sent to the participants at a later date, if needed.  There is a registration cost of $60 for materials and refreshments/meals.  (8 LPC/LMFT points for completion of the workshop)  MAY 20 is the cut off date to register.

We have four nationally certified trainers that will be delivering the training.  These trainers are:
Debra Booth, Counselor, Canadian Valley Technology Center
Polly Bredy, Counselor, Caddo-Kiowa Technology Center
Peggy Castleberry, Counselor, Canadian Valley Technology Center
