Great Plains Tech celebrates Manufacturing Day with Goodyear

Great Plains Technology Center celebrated Manufacturing day on Oct. 6 with its longtime partner Goodyear.

“Manufacturing is the lifeblood of our economy, and the true strength of American manufacturing is its workers. We know we need to keep up, and the only way to do that is by committing to the development of our associates’ skills,” said Joe McSharry, Goodyear vice president of operational excellence and North American consumer tire manufacturing. “That’s where the Great Plains Technology Center comes in. Your technical training programs are essential to Goodyear – here in Lawton, throughout our manufacturing footprint and to the greater manufacturing community as well.”

CareerTech’s partnership with business and industry is core to our students’ success and the industries workforce needs.  This is just one of the many examples of the economic impact and criticality of Oklahoma CareerTech.

Students learn about diversity and inclusion

Quentin Sanders, ODCTE equity and diversity specialist, presented a session on the topic of “Embracing Diversity and Inclusion” at Weleetka High School on Oct. 3 and Millwood High School on Oct. 4.

At each session, high school students from 10th through 12th grades played an interactive diversity bingo game to introduce the concept of diversity and inclusion. In addition, Sanders facilitated student role-play activities with questions and answers to teach the concepts of bias and stereotypes.
