Preservice student teachers learn about diversity and inclusion

Quentin Sanders, ODCTE equity and diversity specialist, conducted an interactive session on diversity and inclusion March 15 with agricultural education preservice student teachers at Oklahoma State University.

Sanders facilitated role-play scenarios with questions and answers to highlight how unconscious bias can affect a classroom environment. In addition, he fielded questions from participants on strategies they could use to encourage recognition and respect for everyone in their classrooms.


2018 OEIP Ultimate Teacher/Industry Connection registration opening soon

The Oklahoma Educators and Industry Partnership offers an outstanding professional development opportunity for Oklahoma fifth- through 12th-grade teachers each summer.

Registration for the 2018 OEIP Ultimate Teacher/Industry Connection will open April 2 at 9 a.m. Registration is $25 and will be reimbursed upon completion of the conference. Lodging and lunches are included in the registration.

Teachers can attend one of three conferences: June 11-13 at High Plains Tech in Woodward, June 26-28 at Northwest Tech in Pryor or July 24-26 at Canadian Valley Tech in El Reno. A limited number of teachers will be selected for each site. Each teacher will receive a $100 stipend and a $200 Pitsco gift card and have the opportunity to receive a $750 grant.

School Response to Active Assailant Training offered

School Response to Active Assailant Training, a free training opportunity from the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security’s Oklahoma School Security Institute, will be April 5 at Metro Technology Centers’ South Bryant Campus.

Two sessions are planned, from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The training is free. Registration is not required, but is appreciated for planning purposes.

CareerTech Foundation scholarship application opens

Applications for the CareerTech Foundation Teacher Recruitment and Retention Scholarship are open.

The scholarship is open to CareerTech teachers and to college juniors and seniors who are pursuing bachelor’s degrees to become certified CareerTech teachers. Applications are due May 15.
