ODCTE employee honored by state financial aid organization

Staff Photo of Sandra McKnightSandra McKnight of Oklahoma CareerTech received the 2019-2020 Partner Award from the Oklahoma Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.

McKnight is the financial aid/federal student aid coordinator in ODCTE’s Accreditation Services Division.

The Partner Award is given by the OASFAA to an individual who is not a practicing aid administrator “whose efforts are important to advancing the profession or the needs of students in Oklahoma,” according to its website.

 

16 Stillwater FFA members named top 3 placers in National Agriscience Fair

The Stillwater FFA chapter ranked No. 1 in the United States for most projects and most national finalists in the 2020 National Agriscience Fair. The chapter had 16 members finish in the top three in 10 divisions in the fair, more than any other chapter in the nation.

The chapter will be celebrating this week with the 2020 Stillwater FFA Week of Champions. The 93rd National FFA Convention and Expo will be a virtual event Oct. 27-29.

New energy career cluster launches

Experts representing multiple sectors in the energy industry met virtually last week to discuss the need for qualified professionals and the benefits of a new CareerTech program designed to fill a gap in Oklahoma’s workforce.

Together, the Oklahoma Energy Workforce Consortium and Oklahoma CareerTech have developed a new career cluster on energy, designed to provide students practical training in a wide range of career paths in the energy industry. Expecting a severe shortage of skilled workers by 2025, Oklahoma’s energy industry is searching for qualified technicians, engineers, lineworkers, managers, truck drivers, mechanics and workers in other energy-related professions.

Tri County named 2020 Best Workplace

Tri County Technology Center is included in Fortune’s 2020 Best Small and Medium Workplaces.

It is the only Oklahoma organization to earn the recognition. Rankings are based on employees’ feedback. Tri County is No. 11 in the list of 100 small workplaces recognized this year.

Toyota donates new car to Indian Capital Tech

Indian Capital Technology Center automotive technology students have a new Toyota Corolla to learn on, thanks to two ICTC alumni.

The Toyota Corporation donated the 2019 Corolla through Gulf States Toyota of Houston, along with Jim Norton Toyota of Tulsa and James Hodge Toyota of Muskogee. The alumni, Luke Jackson and Greg Foster, work in parts and service for Jim Norton Toyota of Tulsa and worked with Toyota Corporation to get the donation, ICTC instructor Andrew Theodore told the Muskogee Phoenix.

CV Tech partners with SWOSU to boost registered nurse numbers

Canadian Valley Technology Center and Southwestern Oklahoma State University are working together to help more people become registered nurses.

The new program will allow graduates of CV Tech’s practical nursing program to transition into SWOSU’s Bachelor of Science in nursing degree program. The first group of practical nurses began the 14-month program this month. They are expected to complete their coursework in December 2021.
