Oklahoma FCCLA chapters place in national program competition

One Oklahoma FCCLA chapter won a national program award and also joined another Oklahoma chapter in earning honorable mentions.

Drummond FCCLA was the Families First middle school winner and also earned honorable mention in Community Service.

Tushka High School FCCLA earned honorable mention in STOP the Violence.

 

Great Plains Tech’s culinary arts complex nears completion

Great Plains Technology Center was scheduled to begin moving into its new culinary arts complex last week after 11 months of construction, Superintendent Clarence Fortney told The Lawton Constitution.

The complex will be completed about three months later than the original projected completion date, but Fortney said he expects the facility to be operational and serving food in early December.

The 14,000-square-foot space includes classrooms, storage, commercial and teaching kitchens and serving and dining areas.

Altus Air Force Base honors Southwest Tech grad

Altus Air Force Base named Benjamin Rojas, a graduate of Southwest Technology Center’s aviation maintenance technology program, its Airman of Altus recently.

Rojas is the KC-46 Pegasus aircraft mechanic crew chief with the 97th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. Through his program at Southwest Tech, he earned his FAA airframe and powerplant license. He also works part-time at the municipal airport as a licensed airframe and powerplant technician, he said.

Wes Watkins Tech superintendent celebrates retirement

Wes Watkins Technology Center recently honored Superintendent Wade Walling at a retirement reception.

Walling is retiring after 45 years in education. His career has included stints as a construction trades instructor for at-risk students at Ninnekah Public Schools; coordinator of work-based learning and student organization activities, director of business and industry services and assistant superintendent at Caddo Kiowa Technology Center and superintendent at WWTC.

Walling received the Oklahoma Vocational Association Outstanding Administrator Award in 1987, the National Career and Technical Education Equity Council Leadership Award in 2009 and the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators District 20 Superintendent of the Year in 2020.
