Oklahoma Summit early registration ending soon

The deadline for early bird registration for Oklahoma Summit is July 12. Early registration is $75. Registration after July 12 is $100.

The 54th annual conference will be Aug. 1-3 at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. It will feature professional development opportunities along with recognition of Oklahoma CareerTech System employees.

This year’s keynote speaker will be retired Navy Cmdr. John Herrington, who flew on the space shuttle Endeavour.

Oklahoma TSA members place at National Conference

The Oklahoma Technology Student Association members had four national placers and six top 10 finalists at the 2021 Virtual National Conference.

National placers were Evan Ferguson, Alva Middle School, second place, prepared speech; Edmond Santa Fe, third place, coding high school; Central Middle School, first place, STEM animation middle school; and Stillwater Junior High, first place, coding middle school.

Top 10 finalists were Josey Inseman, Perkins-Tryon, digital photography middle school; Central Middle School, Bartlesville, mechanical engineering, middle school; Whittier Middle School, Norman, challenging tech issues, Sean Kuehn, extemporaneous speech and prepared presentation; and Stillwater Junior High, website design.

Susan James, Edmond Santa Fe, was a stipend award recipient of $1,000. She was one of 30 recognized chapter advisers. Jill Sullins, Edmond Cheyenne, was named Chapter Adviser of the Year.

Kiamichi Tech puts mobile meat processing lab to use

Kiamichi Technology Centers-McAlester has put Oklahoma CareerTech’s new mobile meat processing lab to use for a two-week meat processing course.

The 63-hour course includes 31 hours of classroom training and 32 hours in the lab, Clyde Spears, KTC agriculture business management coordinator, told the McAlester News-Capital. In the lab, students practice sanitation protocols and suit up before learning to cut meat into retail-sized portions.

Francis Tuttle instructor to participate in Odyssey de Culinaire

Bill Leib, culinary instructor at Francis Tuttle Technology Center, has been chosen as one of the lead chefs for the 2021 Odyssey de Culinaire hosted by the Oklahoma Restaurant Association Education Foundation.

The event pairs lead chefs with high school students to prepare a five-course dinner. It is a fundraiser for the Oklahoma ProStart Program.

Several CareerTech students have also been chosen to participate in the event. Their instructors are Aaron Crayton and Carly Austin, Tulsa Technology Center; Marjorie Hammond, Metro Technology Centers; Dustin Charger, Meridian Technology Center; Jeffry Howard, Indian Capital Technology Center; and Angela Doss, Edmond Memorial High School.

Claremore CTE teacher honored

News on 6 in Tulsa named David Isenbart, a CareerTech teacher at Will Rogers Junior High in Claremore, its Teacher of the Day last Wednesday.

Isenbart teaches seventh and eighth grades and is the Technology Student Association adviser at Will Rogers. He also serves on the National TSA board of directors.
