Chance Tuttle presents Bruce DeMuth with Francis Tuttle Career Excellence Award

August 8, 2018

Bruce DeMuth, former superintendent of Pioneer Technology Center, received Oklahoma CareerTech's most prestigious award during the 51st annual Career and Technology Education Summer Conference.

DeMuth received the Francis Tuttle Career Excellence Award from the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education. State CareerTech Director Marcie Mack and Chad Tuttle, grandson of the late Francis Tuttle, presented the award.

The conference was Aug. 1-2 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. It attracts some 3,700 CareerTech educators from across the state and is one of the largest professional development educator conferences in the state. OkACTE is the professional organization for the state's CareerTech administrators, teachers and staff members.

The Francis Tuttle Career Excellence Award was established in 1985 in honor of Francis Tuttle, former state director of the Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Education and architect of what is now called the CareerTech System. The award recognizes individuals whose careers exemplify Tuttle's dedication to the development of people through career and technology education. It is given to a recipient who has made contributions of state or national significance.

DeMuth worked tirelessly for nearly four decades to promote the value of career and technology education. He began as a vocational agriculture teacher in Fairview before becoming Meridian Technology Center’s first administrative intern. He later became assistant to the superintendent at Meridian Tech.

His administrative career continued with stints at Pioneer Technology Center and the Oklahoma Department of CareerTech before he returned to Pioneer Tech where he finished out his career as superintendent. He retired from Pioneer Tech in June this year.

During Demuth’s tenure at Pioneer Tech, he initiated many innovative programs that produced growth for the technology center, including the Guaranteed Graduate Program, which promotes tech center graduates to area industry.
