MNTC Sonography Student Earns McCrabb Scholarship

Patty McCrabb (L), wife of the late Hugh McCrabb and Susan Kuzmic (R) of the Oklahoma State Department of Career and Technical Education present Molly Williams (center) with The McCrabb Scholarship at Moore Norman Technology Center.

Moore Norman Technology Center student Molly Williams was honored with The McCrabb Scholarship today.

Williams is a student in MNTC’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography class. She received the honor from Patty McCrabb, wife of the late Hugh McCrabb and Susan Kuzmic, Career Readiness Coordinator with the Oklahoma State Department of Career and Technical Education.

The McCrabb Scholarship is awarded through the generosity of ACT® and it honors Hugh McCrabb for his pioneering work in making the Career Readiness Certificate a reality in Oklahoma. The Career Readiness Certificate increases workplace skills for thousands of Oklahomans.

The McCrabb Scholarship covers one full year of tuition at an Oklahoma career and technology education institution and addresses any costs involved in testing for, and the printing of, an Oklahoma Career Readiness Certificate for an adult student either beginning or continuing instruction at a CareerTech center.

This scholarship is awarded each year to an adult student who demonstrates Hugh McCrabb’s enthusiasm for self-improvement through education.

Williams will graduate this January from MNTC and will also earn an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography through a Cooperative Alliance Agreement MNTC has with Oklahoma City Community College.

Williams also recently earned the Gold Level Career Readiness Certificate and said she is ready to retake the exam, as she was one point shy of the Platinum Level.

Williams discovered her passion for sonography by way of one of the most difficult paths; she suffered the personal loss of her newborn daughter soon after delivery in 2010.

Williams worked closely with doctors and sonography professionals to be as aware as possible of her baby’s health challenges over a seven-week period leading up to the birth.

“God led me to the career path that I have been looking for all my life. Diagnostic medical sonography is more than a career for me. It’s my life; my passion. I have found a way to help others in need.

“It is an extremely tough and fast-paced program, but with the encouragement from the sonographers at my clinical sites, I have been able to hang on. I believe Moore Norman has provided me with outstanding clinical sites and I am very thankful for that,” Williams said.
