Inquiring minds want to know:

  1. SLC Polo colors—students-blue sapphire and advisers-dark purple.
  2. Pharmacy Science event—new this year, check it out!
  3. Local Advisor Recognition—application on OK HOSA website.
  4. Local Rookie Adviser Recognition---application on OK HOSA website.
  5. Conference Registration—Feb 5-16. Registration instructions are on OK HOSA website.
  6. Round One testing—Feb 19-March 2. I will be sending information to your testing proctor after the first of February. Please contact your testing proctor to schedule your students test dates. Testing WILL NOT be extended for ANY reason.
  7. Round One testing results—Those advancing to Round 2 and the Top 10 in Health Science Events will be posted on OK HOSA website by March 14.
  8. NEW—We will no longer require a copy of the Code of Conduct and Medical Liability forms to be submitted at conference registration. We are depending on the local adviser to have this information for all their students. It is the local adviser's responsibility!
  9. National Service Project clarification—There has been much discussion on the requirements for Certificate of Recognition vs. the Certificate of Merit. It was always my understanding that the required amounts (100 and 500) could be combined money and hours. However, apparently this is not National HOSA’s intention.

Please read the below information from National HOSA:

“The guidelines for NSP are not intended to 'add' the hours and the dollars raised to get to the 100/500 minimums. To earn the Certificate of Recognition, a chapter must have raised $100 minimum or volunteered 100 hours minimum, or they can raise $100 and volunteer 100 hours, but the recognition still remains at the Recognition level. We can look at clarifying that wording in the guidelines next year so it's clearer the two can’t be added.”

FOR 2018 OKLAHOMA STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE, we will honor the combined money/hours for the Gold, Silver, Bronze Star Chapter Recognition and the NSP recognition.

For 2018 International Leadership Conference, the money and hours will not be combined.

Therefore, there is a possibility that a chapter may receive the Certificate of Merit at OK SLC, but the Certificate of Recognition at ILC.

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Debbie Bennett
Oklahoma HOSA State Adviser
