CareerTech National Honor Students Convene
More than 300 students, advisers and guests convened for the seventh annual Oklahoma National Technical Honor Society State Leadership Conference Nov. 13 at Moore Norman Technology Center’s South Penn Campus.
Voice of the Oklahoma City Redhawks Alex Freedman gave the keynote speech. Students also heard from Warren Martin, executive director of the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum, as well as Richard Hedrick, director of the Oklahoma Sports Museum. Kate Allen, chapter services coordinator from the NTHS national office, was recognized as a special guest.
This year’s theme was “Oklahoma NTHS All Stars,” and students came from all across Oklahoma.
“Students were engaged and had a great time interacting with this year’s speakers,” said Jeremy Zweiacker, state NTHS liaison for the Oklahoma Department of CareerTech Education. "The NTHS members will be participating in the 17th annual Day at the Capitol on Feb. 20."
NTHS recognizes outstanding student achievement in career and technical education. Some 2,298 new members were inducted into Oklahoma's 91 local NTHS chapters during the 2010-11 school year.
NTHS works closely with the seven Oklahoma CareerTech student organizations: Business Professional of America; DECA; FFA; Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America; HOSA; SkillsUSA; and Technology Student Association.
